London (VNA) – ASEAN countries’ Ambassadors to Norway discussed with Norwegian officials specific activities to enhance cooperation between the 10-member bloc and the North European country during a recent meeting in Oslo.
At the meeting with Tine Moerch Smith, General Director of the Department for Regional Affairs under the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and Oslo Mayor Marianne Borgen, the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam also exchanged opinions on ways to boost the ties between their respective countries and Norway.
The Norwegian officials expressed their willingness to further cooperation with Southeast Asia countries, while appreciating the active coordination of the ASEAN Committee in Oslo in efforts to promote bilateral cooperation between Norway and ASEAN in general and each of its member nations in particular.
Since becoming a partner of ASEAN in August last year and the establishment of a Norway-ASEAN joint committee later the same year, Norway has actively coordinated with the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN countries to implement many practical activities, said Tine Moerch Smith.
She noted that Norwegian ambassadors to Southeast Asian countries also highlighted the potential of cooperation between Norway and the ASEAN during their recent meeting in Malaysia.
Oslo Mayor Marianne Borgen took the occasion to thank ASEAN Committee in Oslo for organising many ASEAN cultural events and committed to promoting connection between Oslo with ASEAN countries.
Vietnam’s Ambassador to Norway Le Thi Tuyet Mai expressed gratitude to the Oslo administration and its people for their precious assistance in facilitating Vietnamese immigrants’ integration into Norwegian society.
She hoped Oslo would continue to boost the friendship and people-to-people exchanges with Vietnam and its cities.
